W. Bass, M.A., Md - LGPC, NCC, VA - Resident in Counseling
I was born and raised in Washington D.C. and now reside in Fairfax County, Virginia.
I worked in the telecommunications field for 25 years before accepting God's call
to change directions and pursue a new career. After a 20 year journey, I graduated
Magna Cum Laude from Trinity College, Washington, D.C. in May 2004 with a BA Degree
in Human Relations. I then received an MA Degree in Community Counseling from
Regent University in May 2007 with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy.
Life
experience and the application of theoretically sound therapeutic practice allow
me to provide effective, empathetic counsel to a diverse population. It is my
hope that God uses me as a vessel through which hurting people experience His
healing grace and mercy. I
completed a practicum with Fairfax County Alcohol and Drug Services working with
pregnant and postpartum women and their children, providing individual and group
counseling for the residents of the program and members of their extended families.
After the practicum, I accepted a limited term position as a Substance Abuse Counselor
II with the same program. My internship was at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda,
Maryland on the Behavioral Health Ward. My internship experience included: referral
to community resources, individual, and group counseling for adolescent and adult
males and females dealing with the acute symptoms of depression, anxiety, schizophrenia,
bipolar disorder, and substance abuse. I also co-facilitated a Divorce Care™ group
at McLean Bible Church. Currently, I facilitate dual diagnosis groups and am a
co-leader of a group for women dealing with trauma. I
hold membership in several honor societies including Phi Beta Kappa, PSI Chi,
and Chi Sigma Iota. My professional memberships include the American Association
of Christian Counseling (AACC), the American Counseling Association (ACA), the
Christian Association for Psychological Studies (CAPS), and the Association for
Ethical, and Religious Values in Counseling (ASERVIC). Among
God's blessings are my husband of 12 years, three daughters, five grandchildren
and one great-grandchild. I enjoy reading, listening to music, dancing, and traveling.
My husband and I are active members of Mount Olive Baptist Church, Centreville,
Virginia. |
