Barry Lawlor, M.A., NCC, VA - Resident in Counseling

Barry grew up in Fairfax County and has lived in this area since the 1st grade. He worked for many years as a Disability Analyst for Social Security Disability and also maintained the computer network for his Regional Office during his tenure there. Barry graduated from George Mason University with a BA in Speech Communication and an English Writing Minor. He earned his MA in Community Counseling from Regent University, is a National Certified Counselor (NCC), and is a member of the American Counseling Association.

In addition to counseling at Safe Harbor, Barry works at Fairfax Area Christian Emergency and Transitional Services (FACETS) as a Homeless Intervention Services Counselor working with families and adult singles on issues relating to their housing situation and also the underlying situations that arise in their daily lives relating to depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and basic life skills. Barry also interned at FACETS and led boys groups and girls groups as well as working with youth one on one in a mentor relationship.

Barry is married and currently lives in Loudoun County. He has a special interest in the dynamics of family relationships and how these relationships affect the individual. He has great compassion for people and especially those who feel that they are powerless to their fears. Barry's life verse is Romans 8:15-16: "For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of son ship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father." The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children."
