Barry
Lawlor, M.A., NCC, VA - Resident in Counseling
Barry
grew up in Fairfax County and has lived in this area since the 1st grade. He worked
for many years as a Disability Analyst for Social Security Disability and also
maintained the computer network for his Regional Office during his tenure there.
Barry graduated from George Mason University with a BA in Speech Communication
and an English Writing Minor. He earned his MA in Community Counseling from Regent
University, is a National Certified Counselor (NCC), and is a member of the American
Counseling Association.
In
addition to counseling at Safe Harbor, Barry works at Fairfax Area Christian Emergency
and Transitional Services (FACETS) as a Homeless Intervention Services Counselor
working with families and adult singles on issues relating to their housing situation
and also the underlying situations that arise in their daily lives relating to
depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and basic life skills. Barry also interned
at FACETS and led boys groups and girls groups as well as working with youth one
on one in a mentor relationship. Barry
is married and currently lives in Loudoun County. He has a special interest in
the dynamics of family relationships and how these relationships affect the individual.
He has great compassion for people and especially those who feel that they are
powerless to their fears. Barry's life verse is Romans 8:15-16: "For you did not
receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit
of son ship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father." The Spirit himself testifies with
our spirit that we are God's children." |
